“Straight from the Horse’s Mouth” - Our Clients Speak Out...

December 29, 2010: “I was boarding my two horses at a facility not far from Academy Stables. I asked one of my closest friends where she boards her horses and she stated ‘Academy Stables.’ Because the two women that manage the stable where I was boarding my horses had made repeated remarks that horses “had died, had been horribly wounded,” etc. at Academy Stables. I asked my best friend why would she board her horses at Academy Stables for the past two-plus years if what I was hearing was true? What my friend told me came as no great surprise, the two women that run the facility where I used to board my horses were fired by the owner of Academy Stables approximately three years ago due to the fact that they embezzled close to $25,000. Now that Academy Stables is under new management and has a new riding instructor it is no surprise to see why my previous barn is about to go out of business while Academy Stables is two or three horses away from being filled up to capacity and is absolutely thriving! The statements these women made (and, unfortunately, continue to make) about Academy Stables are not only completely false and without merit but they are obviously being made to try to libel Academy Stables due to the fact that these women were fired and are now about to go out of business. While I do not like to say hateful things or even negative things about other individuals; I really think it is sad that these women feel they have to lie about their previous employer in an attempt to gain or keep business. I think this hurts the entire horse community and that is why I moved my horses to Academy Stables. After meeting and speaking with the Barn Manager, seeing the immaculate health and well being of every horse on the property and also the fact that it is by far the cleanest and best kept facility I have seen in this part of Colorado; it was a very easy decision to move my horses into the care of the staff at Academy Stables. I truly feel that the only wrong decision I have ever made regarding my horses was believing the lies that were told to me by the management of the facility where I previously boarded my horses. Academy Stables cannot be beat!!! I encourage you to not believe me but to visit Academy Stables, speak to the staff and find the truth for yourself. Trust me, it will be well worth your time and your horse(s)’ well being.”

“When I began looking around for a boarding facility for my yearling filly, Rosie, I had a specific idea of what I wanted for her. I wanted a place that first and foremost cared for her safety as a young horse. I didn't want her just turned out with a bunch of other horses who would beat her up because she was smaller, but I wanted her to have pasture turnout to have time to just be a horse. Of course I wanted to some amenities for myself as well such as a round pen and arena to work in. While looking around I found places that had some but not all of my requirements or had all of my requirements but were way out of my price range. I had toured a couple of facilities but nothing seemed to fit right until I went to Academy Stables. Everything was actually as it looked on the website! The grounds, barn and arenas were all clean and well-kept. When I asked about pasture turnout and what horses my filly might be turned out with I was shown another yearling and a very sedate looking mare who would most likely be her pasture buddies. I was pretty much sold from that point on. Rosie has adjusted well coming from the ranch she was born on in Texas to Academy Stables. She has pasture turnout during the day with a small group of horses and a stall to return to at night. I am very happy boarding at Academy Stables!”

“Beautiful stable with heated indoor arena and two other huge arenas. Grass pastures (more than [25] acres) and automated watering for the horses. Very clean, very professional staff and very knowledgeable staff. Easily the most well-run stable in the area. I strongly suggest boarding your horse here if you wish to enjoy a nice stable with a great atmosphere!”

"I have been taking lessons with Jillian at Academy Stables since March of 2008. I have progressed from beginning Western to intermediate English riding. I volunteered my time during the summer camps, watched her conduct private and group lessons as well as individual training sessions with boarded horses. Jillian is an excellent trainer. She has a great depth of knowledge about all aspects of riding, horse behavior and training. She possesses infinite patience with her students, pushing them when they need a nudge and forgiving when they show up feeling a little under the weather. Her commitment to teaching and all things equestrian is unquestioned. Jillian maintains a poised and calm demeanor in even the most trying situations. Safety is always the first concern and something she never compromises from the youngest novice student to the older more experienced ones. You could not go wrong with Jillian as your trainer."

“I have been boarding at Academy Stables for over a year now. I do not take lessons from Jillian but have seen her on a few occasions both giving lessons and working with the children in the camps and she is great. If she had any fault it would be her devotion to safety but as she is sometimes working with 5 and 6 year olds, its pretty difficult to fault her for wanting those kids to be safe. There were a few riders out at the stables a few months ago that were, in my opinion, fairly reckless but I have not seen them and have never been in an arena when they were riding (was a little worried to do so to be quite frank). The Barn Manager, Jeff, helped me work with my horse to get him calmer and more responsive under saddle. He knows more about horses and horse care and the training of horses than most anyone I have ever spoken with. He also gives the horses their vaccinations and dresses and takes care of any wounds that, as a horse owner, we know are all to common with any horse at any facility or property. I can honestly say that if Jeff and the stable Hand (Raul) were not taking the care for my horse, I would probably seek out another barn as the individuals that were managing the barn prior to Jeff and Jillian coming aboard did not exactly exude a high level of confidence. In any event, I highly recommend Academy Stables as it is the cleanest and best managed facility I have ever seen (and in my many years I have seen several). The heated indoor arena is going to be done in December (according to their website) and there is always plenty of space to ride and work with your horse. The boarding fees are lower than any facility in the area (any "quality facility") and the care and safety of the staff is second to none.”

“[the Academy Stables barn] relaxes you like a monastery. the view is amazing and breath taking and the barn is clean and very well-maintained. The manager is always available to help in seemingly any way and I would not entrust the safety of my horse to just anyone. This guy knows his stuff when it comes to training horses and running a stable in a very efficient manner. The indoor arena is AMAZING!!! Its going to be done in a couple of weeks! :D Right in time for winter (assuming winter ever gets here!!! :)

“I've been boarding at Academy Stables for over [since March, 2008]. I also use their trainer, Jillian, for lessons for my daughter and to train my horse. Jillian is excellent. My daughter is no longer afraid to ride and has developed a love of riding that will stay with her for a lifetime. Jillian is patient and kind. The staff takes good care of the horses and I love the relaxed, non-competitive environment. There are [3] arenas and 1 trainer, so there is always a place to ride. [The] new indoor arena will open [in December]. There is also a lot of room for turnout and not too many horses. There was a short 2 months where there was an influx of young show-barn teens who were rude and disrespectful of going into arenas where there were young inexperienced riders. I was thinking of moving since the barn was turning into the type of barn that I have avoided over the years. They have all left and our peaceful barn has resumed. If you are an owner of a horse or a parent who just wants lessons for their child, but doesn't care for the high-pressure, high cost of horse showing, then Academy is the barn for you.”

“It's nice to know that boarders at Academy are so valued and are considered more than just another customer. I, for one, couldn't be happier with the way things are going at Academy, not only all the wonderful improvements/upgrades, but the consistent level of care that is shown to horses and owners. I hope to keep [my horse] at Academy for years to come (and hopefully a foal of hers in those coming years!). Thank you so much for your time and care in everything that goes on at the stable.”
